Donald Trump practiced making the mugshot face |
The glum "mug-shot face" that Donald Trump is rumored to have practiced.
The 77-year-old former US president was apprehended by law enforcement after turning himself in at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta on Thursday. He has been charged of attempting to reverse his electoral defeat in 2020. Now, a behavior expert has said that his seemingly well-planned expression was intended to demonstrate to the world that he "will not be cowed."
Trump's behavior has been studied in relation to American attitudes, and Dr. Benjamin Ruisch, a psychology lecturer at the University of Kent, told the i newspaper that it appeared the front-runner for the Republican nomination in 2024 had spent "quite a bit of time practicing" his mug shot face with his campaign team.
He said, "His face seems very deliberate. It's hardly a spontaneous remark; rather, it was probably carefully crafted to send a certain message to his support group.
Bloodshot eyes and somewhat unkempt hair give off the impression that he's already been through hell in his face, which is a bit harrowed.
Dr. Ruisch stated that it might also be a result of stress or an act.
The scandal-plagued Trump, he continued, has a "excellent opportunity" thanks to the mugshot since it "puts him back in the spotlight and advances the narrative that his political opponents are unfairly persecuting him."
The former reality TV personality shared the photograph on X, and Trump's campaign team exploited it to start selling products with his likeness on it.
Trump's statement was his first on X since January 2021, and it included a link to his official website.
T-shirts, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, and other items of products have already been printed with his mug image.
After being charged with attempting to rig the election, Trump and 18 co-defendants were allowed until Friday to voluntarily surrender.
The wealthy businessman alleged earlier this month that he was the target of a political "witch hunt."
Trump, who was the 45th US President from 2017 to 2021, used social media to deny the accusations and to cast doubt on the fairness of the legal system.
At the time, he declared on his Truth Social platform: "So, the Witch Hunt continues! An out-of-control and extremely corrupt district attorney who ran a campaign and garnered funds on the slogan "I will get Trump" indicted 19 people tonight, including the former president of the United States, me.
