'Unacceptable': a student was stabbed to death and another injured at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.

WTVD, RALEIGH, N.C. Following a fatal stabbing, Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School has canceled classes for Tuesday.

Raleigh Police charged a 14-year-old juvenile suspect with murder after obtaining a secure custody order for him. The juvenile petition was filed.

Following the stabbings of two students, the school was under Code Red lockdown for the majority of the Monday. A student, then fifteen, passed away from his wounds. The 16-year-old pupil who was the other student stayed in the hospital with injuries that were deemed to be non-life-threatening.

According to Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson, there seems to have been a fight before the stabbing. At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Patterson stated that a juvenile suspect was taken into custody by the School Resource Officer (SRO).

On her first day back after Thanksgiving break, Daniela Fortin had a PE class that she will never forget.

"There were a lot of people screaming and crying," Fortin stated.

The school gym was a scene of chaos, happening within feet away from her.

Social media users shared footage of a dispute that started on a cell phone, after which two students were stabbed.

Regarding the student who passed away later, Fortin remarked, "There were a lot of people around him, and they were very concerned about him and it was very scary."

"A really traumatic event," Fortin remarked. "The events were captured on camera... It's difficult to describe, but watching all of the films made me feel really depressed."

Raleigh Police will use the footage as evidence.

This week, counselors will be available to the staff and students at the school.

"Fear of the unknown, even from simply entering the building, breeds psychosis, right? As you mentioned, it arouses anxiety and fears, making one wonder whether something would happen to them or if it would happen again, according to Dr. Shonte Frederick of Frederick's Christian Counseling.

Frederick asked parents to check on their children and offered her services to parents of Southeast Raleigh High students at no cost.

"I've been receiving phone calls, texts, emails, and we are ready to assist, we are ready to service the needs of our community of our youth," Frederick stated.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family," the school said in a statement. "Please keep them and all of those that have been impacted by this loss in your thoughts ... please know that the student who passed away was a valued member of our school community, and we grieve this loss alongside his loved ones."

In a quick interview with ABC11, the student's family revealed that their loved one was 15 years old. The upset family went on to say that they are still processing what happened and going through the grieving process.

They also mentioned that later this week, they intend to organize a balloon release in his honor.

Dr. Robert Taylor, the superintendent of Wake County, stated that the incident was unsettling and that the district may be making adjustments to its safety procedures in the near future.

"Students and staff should feel comfortable and secure in our schools. It's unacceptable what happened here today," he declared. "As superintendent, I can tell you, there is nothing more important than the well-being and the safety of our students."

Wake County Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor described the event as disconcerting and hinted that the district would soon be modifying its safety protocols.

"In our schools, both students and staff should feel at ease and secure. "What transpired here today is unacceptable," he proclaimed. "As superintendent, I can tell you, there is nothing more important than the well-being and the safety of our students."

"I would want to extend my sympathies to the victim's family and loved ones. I can't image receiving that call as a parent. I simply cannot fathom that," he remarked. "I offer my prayers to those affected and pledge my resolve."

Parents also conveyed their worry and annoyance.

Saleemah Abdullah stated, "We never know what's going to happen at any given time." Naturally, we don't anticipate these occurrences. However, we do hope that our kids are protected in the event that it does. And that whoever did this gets apprehended in order to determine what type of disturbed mind the perpetrator may have in order to be capable of such an act. and ideally get their assistance."

One woman, who identified herself as a parent but wished to remain anonymous, remarked, "It's really annoying since, naturally, one of my worries as a parent is dropping my children off at school every day. I simply believe that something needs to be done about the situation."

The brother of a new student in the school is Jayden Bellamy.

Bellamy remarked, "My sister just comes to school to learn." "She fulfills her obligations. She does well in school. It's merely caught in a predicament. It's regrettable.

Up to 2:20 p.m., students were discharged as usual during the Code Red lockdown. Carpool students, however, were taken to Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek to be picked up.

On Monday and Tuesday, all after-school programs were canceled by the school administration.

School administrators said, "This is a time for all of us to come together and support each other." As a school community, we are committed to providing mutual support to one another during this difficult time as we mourn this loss.

According to Governor Roy Cooper, violence in schools is unacceptable.

"We are heartbroken for the students, educators and families of Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School and we grieve for this tragic loss," Cooper said to social media. "We cannot accept violence in our schools and we must continue to work to identify threats and ensure the safety of students and teachers so they can focus on teaching and learning."

The area's representative, Congressman Wiley Nickel, D-NC-13, responded to the news of the tragic stabbing as well.

"I'm devastated to hear that a Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School student has tragically passed away and another has been injured in a senseless act of violence," Nickel remarked.
