Trump's campaign raises $7.1 million in response to a famous Georgia mugshot |
Since his police picture was taken in a prison in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, Donald Trump's election campaign claims it has raised $7.1 million (£5.6 million).
Merchandise featuring the former president's scowling face, like mugs, T-shirts, and drink coolers, provides a significant portion of the funding.
Trump was accused with attempting to rig the state's 2020 election results and released on bail.
As he runs for office in the US in 2024, he is also facing charges in three other cases.
Two of them are connected to his exaggerated allegations that the election was rigged and the assault on the Washington, D.C., Capitol by his supporters.
As the front-runner in the Republican primary to unseat Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden, Mr. Trump disputes all of the allegations and claims they are politically motivated.
Since his indictments in the Georgia and Capitol riots cases, the limelight appears to have inspired his followers, and he has raised approximately $20 million in just three weeks.
He reportedly raised $4.18 million on Friday, only hours after being taken into custody in Georgia, which is his greatest 24-hour fundraising total to date.
The campaign has been texting supporters inquiring for assistance in addition to selling goods from its online store.
For the first time since January 2021, Mr. Trump himself tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday. He shared a photo of his mug shot and wrote, "Election interference." Never give up!" along with the URL of his website.
After being pictured inside the Fulton County jail, when he turned himself in to authorities and paid $200,000 to be released while awaiting prosecution, this occurred.
