The Notting Hill Carnival's future was in the spotlight on Sunday as the customary children's day parade made its way through west London's streets.

Hundreds of kids dressed up in their glad rags and came out to dance along the route in support of the family-friendly event that aims to inspire the future generation.

Here are just a few people who participated in the carnival mood:

The carnival is the biggest street festival in Europe and one of the oldest street parties in the world.

Each year, more than two million people go to see the three-mile march through W10, including thousands of tourists.

Steel bands, sound systems, soca, calypso, and mas dancing are all featured at the festival.

The carnival was originally described as "part of the very fabric of our city" by Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London.

"The community-led celebration of Caribbean history and culture embodies everything that makes London the greatest city in the world, and, as we continue to work to build a fairer, more prosperous city for all, I'm delighted that it's back, bigger and better than ever."

The adults' parade, which starts at noon on Bank Holiday Monday, is the next event in the festival. It is suggested that spectators attend early to secure a decent location.
