Ipswich Town 3 - 4 Leeds United |
Joe Rodon's own goal gave the Tractor Boys the lead in the seventh minute, but Leeds quickly turned the game around with three goals in a nine-minute span.
Forward Georginio Rutter equalized for the Whites with his first goal, and in the 14th minute, Wilfried Gnonto, who had returned to the lineup after accepting responsibility for his refusal to play, poked home to give the visitors the lead.
The lead was immediately increased by rookie Joel Piroe, who converted after Ipswich goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky mishandled a low attempt from Luis Sinisterra.
Nathan Broadhead scored to tie the score at 3-2 in the waning seconds of the first half thanks to an error at the back, keeping Ipswich in the game. However, Sinisterra appeared to have put the game away with 15 minutes left when the Colombian winger glided home from inside the box.
Ipswich still had time to score another goal in stoppage time through Conor Chaplin, but Leeds managed to hold on and earn their first league victory in 13 games.

When center-back Rodon dived in and deflected a low Kayden Jackson cross past Illan Meslier, Daniel Farke could have been expecting another trying afternoon in the Leeds bench after his July appointment.
Rutter, a £36 million January transfer from Hoffenheim, quickly pulled Leeds even though he displayed good strength to turn on the edge of the box, advance into the area, and then shoot his finish over Hladky and into the bottom left corner.
Then Gnonto, who had returned to the lineup after missing three games and submitting a transfer request, snuck in at the far post to convert Sam Byram's deep left-wing cross.
Following his transfer from Swansea City to Leeds on Thursday, Piroe made it a perfect few minutes for the visitors when he tapped in from six yards out after Hladky spilled Sinisterra's effort.
After Byram was forced to leave the game due to injury, Cody Drameh, his replacement, made a poor backpass that allowed Ipswich to retake the lead. Jackson pounced on the loose ball and pulled back to allow Broadhead to sweep in via a deflection.
With the score at 4-2, Sinisterra, who had returned to the lineup after an injury, displayed his skill with a finish across the goalkeeper from a tight angle. Chaplin's low strike into the bottom right corner in the seventh additional minute was too little, too late for Ipswich.
Ipswich had gained promotion after theyIn their first three games since their return to the Championship in 2018–19, Kieran McKenna's team lost for the first time in 23 league games, dating back to a 2-1 loss at Oxford in January.
Kieran McKenna, the Ipswich manager, said on BBC Radio Suffolk:
"I think we had the upper hand in most categories, and it was a pretty terrific game. We can learn a lot of good things from the game.
"In the first half, we gave up a few terrible goals, and some of it may be attributed to the opponent's caliber. We'll get better as we get used to this level.
There were many positive aspects of our teamwork and fearlessness both on and off the ball. We had 20shots in total and played deliberately."
"This is a different division, and we are not going to put another 22-game unbeaten streak together in this league," the team said of their streak coming to an end.
"I have many wonderful recollections from playing those games. We had a great start with three victories, including a cup victory, but we will suffer greater losses this time around.
Daniel Farke, manager of Leeds, said on BBC Radio Leeds:
"Overall, I was delighted with our offensive potency, especially considering that we played a team that had three clean sheets in their first four competitive games.
"It felt really, really fantastic to dig in and work hard to achieve a result and score four times. The mood is improved by it and beneficial to confidence.
"Luis and Wilfried looked incredibly focused, disciplined, and sharp during training this week. It was more difficult for Joel because we had just signed him, but he is in terrific form and is familiar with the league.
"A winning sensation cannot be replaced. These players had some trying times in the Premier League and had to wait quite a while for another league victory.
"They should enjoy this, but this league is relentless, and you can't allow yourself to be happy for too long."
